The 3 founders view Cerno as a friendship, a business and a lifestyle. The dynamic team is comprised of an engineer, designer and artist whose unrelenting passion for innovative design fuels their pursuit to continually create one-of-a-kind furniture and lighting products.
The Team
Daniel Wacholder, Founder and Director of Engineering and Operations
Daniel graduated from the University of California San Diego in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. While studying at UCSD and after graduating he worked for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where he developed underwater research equipment. After moving back to Laguna Beach he took a job with a local engineering and manufacturing company. Daniel saw great potential for the company to extend their reach, and as director of engineering and operations he helped grow the business from a small start up into an established internationally recognized company.
Nick Sheridan, Founder and Director of Design
Nick graduated from Cal Poly Pomona’s 5-year professional architecture program with a Bachelor of Arts in architecture. During his college years he expanded upon his academic education by working at RNM, a large architecture firm in Irvine. This was followed by employment at Horst Architects where he provided custom residential services to the Laguna Beach community. While attending Cal Poly, Nick studied abroad in Florence Italy for a year, where his extensive traveling and studies significantly influenced his design perspective. Upon graduating from architecture school, Nick and his cousin Chris Letourneau formed a custom residential firm, Letourneau Architecture in Newport Beach, designing homes and working on commercial spaces throughout Orange County. Nick's skill set allows his designs to navigate technical reality and artistic expression, bringing uncompromised ideas to fruition.
Bret Englander, Founder and Director of Sales and Marketing
Bret graduated from the University of Colorado in 2004 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communication. As a student he wrote and photographed for the University of Colorado's newspaper and Northern Colorado's Greely Tribune. Bret studied abroad in Nepal and Australia where his course work focused on media studies. After graduating and returning to California, he worked for one of the nations largest home builders, Standard Pacific Homes as a land acquisition associate. After four years at Standard Pacific, he began working as an independent consultant where he collaborated with his family's business the Englander Company and several developers, assisting with market research, branding, marketing and product development.
The diverse educational and professional experience acquired by Cerno's founders is what allows the company to offer a dynamic array of services and products.
Custom Design Services
Cerno welcomes the opportunity to work with designers, architects, specifiers, and individuals looking for innovative design solutions. At Cerno we can execute your product specifications, whether it is a fully developed design or a back of the napkin concept. Cerno can act as a vertically integrated designer, fabricator and installer, or provide any of the aforementioned services independent of one another.
